Safety: While we have carried out full risk assessments of the competition areas and put in place any mitigation of the risks we found, please be aware that you take part at your own risk.
Please be aware of all traffic, pedestrians and other competitors. It is a good principle, to pass other runners to the left. The courses pass through all types of urban environment with a wide range of underfoot conditions. Wet Yorkshire cobbles are very slippery. Competitors who are travelling alone are advised to leave named car keys at enquiries. All competitors must download as soon as possible at the end of their run whether they have completed the course or not.
The Junior courses are planned to minimise road crossing and use parkland and quiet residential streets.
Terrain: Urban Orienteering consisting of ginnels, yards, Victorian parkland, terraced streets, alleyways and modern suburban estates. Hilly, of course.
The ISSOM forbidden crossing symbol for fences, walls, buildings and vegetation must be adhered to.
Map: New map 2014/15 by Richard Payne, EPOC. 1:5000 with 5m contours. ISSOM standard symbols. Map size 45x32 cm. Additional symbol X = man made feature such as seat or bus stop. All maps are printed on waterproof paper and will not be bagged. Maps will not be collected at the finish but please do not show your map to other competitors who have yet to run. Control Sites: All control sites will be marked with a conventional kite. The SI unit and kite will be attached with a wire gripple. Electronic punching: SportIdent equipment is being used. SI cards are available for hire for £1.
SI Download: After punching the finish control you must download as soon as possible and hired SI cards will be collected. Should you lose your SI card, or fail to return it, you will be charged the full price of a replacement (£30).
Shadowing Juniors: Juniors may be shadowed. To remain competitive, any adult who shadows a junior must have completed their run beforehand. Results: Results will be on display in the assembly area and via the EPOC website www.eastpennineoc.org.uk
Clothing: Footwear choice to take into account slippery cobbles and pavements. There will be no arm and leg cover requirements. Clothing Dump: Not provided, as the starts, finish and assembly are all close to each other. A small tent is available adjacent to Registration for bags at owners risk.
Drinks: Please bring your own. Toilets: Two Portable units will be in the assembly area. First Aid: Members of EPOC who have completed First Aid training.
