East Pennine Orienteering Club - How to become a member.
So you are thinking about joining an orienteering club? We hope that you decide to join EPOC and come to enjoy the sport as much as we do!
EPOC was formed in 1976 and held its first event at Storthes Hall, Huddersfield. It now covers Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield and has about 150 members. We belong to the Yorkshire and Humberside Orienteering Association and British Orienteering.
We organise orienteering events throughout the year: Informal (Level D) Events, which are good for people new to the sport, are held on some Saturdays in the autumn and spring and some Wednesday evenings in the summer. National (Level B) & Regional (Level C) Events that attract other orienteers from the region.
All EPOC members are sent a copy of our club magazine, the Epistle, with its up-to-date fixtures list and details of social events and training runs.
If you would like to try orienteering before joining EPOC, you could go to a permanent or virtual course - the EPOC ones are listed on the website. The next EPOC events are on the fixtures list - this can also be found on this site. If you are new to orienteering and would like some advice at your first events, we have EPOC helpers who can 'show you the ropes'. Just email the club if you are planning to go and we can arrange for someone to meet you.
To become a member of EPOC you need to also become a member of British Orienteering (the national governing body). To do this go to the website http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/join_online and follow the instructions to join both British Orienteering and EPOC.
Select EPOC from the club drop down box. YHOA will then appear in the Association box. Choose the membership grade you require then click on submit.
Follow the instructions to enter details of each person wishing to join.
Non-members can take part in 3 events before they should join British Orienteering and the local club.
