EPOC are pleased to invite you to orienteer around the varied and historic urban environment of Elland.

Terrain: Urban Orienteering consisting of 95% Tarmac and 2% climb. Finishing in Parkland 400m from assembly.

Car Parking & Assembly: at Brooksbank  School, Victoria Road, Elland, West Yorkshire, HX5 0QG. Streetmap Link
Directions: From M62 eastbound leave at Jct 24. Take 1st left signed Blackley - down hill for 1 mile. At crossroads turn right (Victoria Road).
From M62 westbound leave motorway and proceed 400m to roundabout - go all the way round and come back on yourself towards the motorway going straight on under the motorway and follow the Blackley sign as above.
From Halifax direction take A629 signposted Huddersfield. The road becomes dual carriageway and you can take the first turn left signposted Elland. However, unless you are following the attached “Streetmap” or navigate with little boxes it would be easier to go all the way up the hill to the roundabout and follow signs to M62 under the motorway and then follow the Blackley sign as above.
From Huddersfield take A629. At the Ainley Top Roundabout follow signs to M62 and then under the motorway following Blackley sign as above.

Safety:  While we have carried out full risk assessments of the competition areas and put in place any mitigation of the risks we found, please be aware that you take part at your own risk. Competitors will be responsible for their own safety.
Please be aware of all traffic, pedestrians and other competitors. It is a good principle, to pass other runners to the left. The courses pass through all types of urban environment with a wide range of underfoot conditions. Wet Yorkshire cobbles are very slippery. Competitors who are travelling alone are advised to leave named car keys at enquiries. All competitors must download as soon as possible at the end of their run whether they have completed the course or not.
The Junior courses are planned to minimise road crossing and use parkland and quiet residential streets.

Control Sites: All control sites will be marked with a conventional kite. The SI unit and kite  will be attached with a wire gripple.
Electronic punching: SportIdent equipment is being used. SI cards are available for hire for £1.

SI Download: After punching the finish control you must download as soon as possible and hired SI cards will be collected. Should you lose your SI card, or fail to return it, you will be charged the full price of a replacement (£30).

Shadowing Juniors: Juniors may be shadowed. To remain competitive, any adult who shadows a junior must have completed their run beforehand.
