Sowerby Bridge Urban Event Sunday 7th February 2016

Part of the YHOA Urban League.

Controller's Comments

I hope you enjoyed the challenge of urban orienteering around Sowerby Bridge.

At first sight Andy’s courses looked ambitious, with changes of scale, changes of map and the complexity within the school site. However, I think he pulled it off admirably. I was pleased to hear some of the juniors say ‘that was easy’, but at the same time the proximity of some of the controls caught out the unwary.

I had spotted a couple of issues with the map around control sites whilst out checking which Mike kindly rectified, but a couple more emerged on the day. The most concerning was the unprotected drop on the SW edge of the wood below Wainhouse Tower. We had not anticipated runners using that route, but it should be marked as an uncrossable wall.

I believe thanks are due to Richard Payne for helping to make control numbering consecutive on the switch over from one map to the next.
Unfortunately an SI box was taken from the E end of the area between 7.30 and 8am - this affected Course 1 only, so we decided to exclude it. I hope all the others were safely retrieved afterwards.

Thanks to Davey as Organiser, particularly for helping to arrange access to the school site in advance.

It was a pleasure to work with EPOC friends old and new.

Best Wishes,
Ian
