History of Elland: Elland received a Royal Charter 700 years ago to hold a weekly market and be classed officially as a market town. Elland is home to The Rex Cinema, one of Britains's oldest surviving purpose-built picture houses; and an impressive selection of family-run shops gives Elland town centre a homely appeal. Victoria Mills in nearby Greetland houses Andy Thornton's, an Aladdin's cave of architectural antiques, some much larger than others, together with some great independent restaurants. Greetland is also the official start of the Calderdale Way.
