Terrain: Hebden Bridge is located in the steep sided Upper Calder Valley. During the seventies and eighties, the town was populated by a mixture of artists, writers, photographers, musicians, alternative practitioners and New Age activists. More recently it has become a tourist destination and grown into a desirable place to live, being on the edge of lovely countryside and moorland.
Hebden Bridge is 4.5 miles east of Todmorden and 8.5 miles from Halifax and only 1.6 miles further west along the A646 from Mytholmroyd.
It has many small independent shops and there are many cafes and restaurants.
Longer courses will visit the village of Heptonstall a step back in time with original weavers cottages, cobbled streets and old churches, well worth a visit after the event.
Directions: From Halifax take A646 for about 8.5 miles passing through Mytholmroyd to Hebden Bridge centre. Holme Street is on the left just before you cross the river. Signed from the main road in Hebden Bridge. From Todmorden take A646 for 4.5 miles, cross the river and Holme Street is the first turning on the right, signed.
Registration: will be in Riverside Junior School, Holme Street, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8EE. Streetmap
Unfortunately, there is no parking for competitors at the school. There is a car park adjacent to the school with number plate recognition, which is for helpers only. If you do not have a pass the fine will arrive automatically!
Map: 1:5000, 5m contours. New Map Surveyed and drawn by Richard Payne 2019.
Planners Notes: A3 for courses 1 to 5. A4 for courses 6 and 7.
Winning times on Courses 1 and 2 will be longer than normal. Please note the height climb and consider taking refreshment with you particularly if it is a hot day.
The majority of all courses will be on non-urban paths, trails, canal banks and parkland. Urban parts will include steep cobbles and steps. These can be a hazard if wet. Please use appropriate footwear.
Farmland is not shown as out of bounds but has a boundary of uncrossable walls. You should only cross farmland by using the mapped paths.
Courses 1 to 6 will cross the main road and there are timed crossings. Crossing points will not be manned and are either Pelican or Zebra Crossings. Course 1 and 2 have one untimed crossing of the main road and should use the traffic island shown on the map. Please take a close note of your control description sheets regarding these crossings.
All courses will use gates between the park and canal towpath. These gates are on a strong spring designed to keep them closed. Please take care.
There will be a marshal at a very narrow part of the towpath under a bridge. Please listen to the marshal’s instructions to avoid bumping into pedestrians. There will also be a marshal on a narrow S bend road bridge with no pavement, again listen to the marshal.
As a tourist centre, Hebden Bridge can be extremely busy. Please be extra careful, particularly when crossing narrow bridges and running along the canal towpath. Look out for dogs and bikes as well as other people.
Dogs: No dogs in the school, the grounds or school car park.

Starts: 10.00 to 12.00 Safety: While we have carried out full risk assessments of the competition areas and put in place any mitigation of the risks we found, please be aware that you take part at your own risk. Competitors will be responsible for their own safety.
Please be aware of all traffic, pedestrians and other competitors. It is a good principle, to pass other runners to the left. The courses pass through all types of urban environment with a wide range of underfoot conditions. Wet Yorkshire cobbles are very slippery. Competitors who are travelling alone are advised to leave their car keys at enquiries and complete the entry form with their car registration no.
