Assembly: Deighton Sports Centre, Huddersfield HD2 1JP. Streetmap
Due to the many routes that can be used to reach Deighton Sports Centre we do not intend to sign routes from the main roads but the entrance to the driveways of both car parks will be signed. Please use Sat Nav and the attached Streetmaps.
There is a Restriction on Numbers that can be inside the SportsCentre at one time, as it is not that big and we are sharing with other users. There are & football matches scheduled for that morning. We have negotiated a limit of 175 orienteers passing through at one time and hope that this will not prove too onerous to comply with.
There are toilets inside the Sports Centre but to help with the numbers there will be 4 Portoloos and a urinal in Car Park A.. Please use the Porto Loos as the Sports Centre will be full with the 7 Football Matches scheduledfor the morning. There will be no toilets at Car Park B.
There is no café on site at the Sports Centre but please support the YHOA Junior squad who will be selling Soup, Cakes and Drinks in Car Park A.
There will be opportunity of a shower. Try not to clog the drains!
Car Parking:
Car Park A: We are expecting 600 competitors and we strongly suggest that competitors make arrangements to travel together to avoid a walk back from Car Park B.
Car Park B: Signed 'North Huddersfield Trust School'. This car park will be for Large Camper vans and Coaches. Coaches can drop off at the entrance driveway to the Sports Centre and then drive to Car Park B, which is 1600mts away and involves a 20% incline. Streetmap
The route from Car Park A to Car Park B can be found here.
Car Keys: These can be left on the way to the start at the back door of the Sports Centre – hand them to the EPOCie. on duty and they will be safely transported to Download. This area is also where you leave your muddy shoes before going to download.
Terrain: Bradley and Fixby are 4 small woods connected by paths and roads. The woods are generally deciduous and have many small paths especially in the east. Some parts especially in the centre have good contour features. There are significant areas of brambles but courses avoid the worst patches where possible. Many courses will have routes through built up areas.

Runnability: Competitors must obey normal urban event rules and avoid all Olive Green areas such as private gardens. The longer courses will cross a busy dual carriageway twice. There will be a 2 minute timed out crossing each way. This has been tested on a number of occasions and is adequate. Many paths are seasonable but generally visibility is good. Runnability is subject to brambles and young saplings. This wood has a dense footpath network. As a result we feel it is impossible to plan a White course to BOF guidelines and as such we shall only offer an easy Yellow.
The short courses are restricted to the Eastern area.
Courses Light Green and Yellow do not involve any road crossings or runs along a road. Estate roads are generally quiet and only carry residential traffic but take care when crossing.
Club Tents and run in to Finish: Due to the exceptional amount of rain it is no longer feasible to have a tented run in to the Finish. We are hoping to make room for tents in the main car park A. Please see Final Details for update.
Entries: Entry fees are £12/£5 to be paid by each club directly to EPOC.
Entries are through club captains only and there will be No Entry On Day including Light Green and Yellow Courses!
SIAC Punching: Controls will be SIAC enabled.
Start: The start is 15 minutes slow walk from Car Park A. Follow Red & White tapes along a pavement. Take care when walking round cars parked on the pavement. The route to the start can be found here.
All starts are punching and there will be two start boxes.
Loose Control Descriptions in the start lanes
Start Times: Start times will be allocated by club captains from each clubs pre-assigned times and cannot be changed. Non Compass Sport courses will not have allocated start times but still need to be pre-entered through club captains.
Finish: The Finish is 10 Minutes walk to download and Car Park A. Follow red & White tapes.
Download: Will be upstairs inside the Sports centre. Follow the Red & White tapes.
Competition Shoeshave to be left at the back door entrance which is also the access to Download. There will be an EPOC member in attendance at all times in case an outsider actually wants to appropriate them!
