Please follow relevant Covid guidelines in place at the time of the event in relation to wearing masks in buildings etc. Please only enter the building to use the toilets and download after your run.

The event is very easy to reach from the M62 Junction 32. From here head south on the A639 towards Pontefract for approximately 1 mile and then turn right at the roundabout into Pontefract Park. Aspire is then on the left. Please park as directed by event marshalls. The event will NOT be signed.

Please park as directed by event marshalls. There is additional parking at the back of the building and an overflow car park will be opened if needed. There is also further parking in the park and on the access road to the racecourse.

Terrain: A completely new area for orienteering, mapped by Richard Payne, consisting of typical urban terrain, mostly on pavements with a mix of town centre and residential areas. Longer courses will visit Pontefract Castle.

Pontefract Castle: Permission has kindly been granted for courses to enter Pontefract Castle where we would ask you to take particular care in relation to other users of the grounds and not to cross fences or areas marked as out of bounds.

Entries: Pre-entries closed on Sunday 18th July. There will be NO ENTRY ON DAY

Start Times: Start times will be pre allocated between 10.00-11.30am as selected by the competitors. The start will be taped and is approximately 700m from parking. There is a spacious pre-start area on the west side of the dual carriageway just before the footbridge that crosses it. Competitors must warm up in this area and should only cross the bridge 5 minutes before their start time. The start consists of -2 where you will clear and check your dibber and can collect loose descriptions, then -1 where you will be given any final instructions before starting.

Finish: The Finish is in Valley Gardens approximately 1.2km from parking. Please do not hang around but promptly return to download so we know you have finished your course, especially later starters. Please also see the map of the event layout for Start and Finish locations.

SIAC Punching: Controls will be SIAC enabled.

Loose Control Descriptions: will be in the start lanes

Download: At Aspire@The Park. Please do not forget to download.

Courses Close: Promptly at 1.00pm. Please go straight to Download before returning to your car so we know when everyone has finished. This is particularly important with the finish being remote from parking.

Safety: Courses F and G each have a separate timed out road crossing. These crossings will be manned for juniors who MUST obey any instructions from the adult at the crossing. The crossing used by Course G is also on the return route from the Finish so please be aware of juniors crossing on their course.

M/W12- should be accompanied to the Start and from the Finish by an adult. There will be an event official at the Finish at all times.

While we have carried out full risk assessments of the competition areas and put in place any mitigation of the risks we found, please be aware that you take part at your own risk. Please be aware of pedestrians and other competitors in all areas, including the castle, town centre, residential areas, blind bends and narrow alleyways. All courses cross roads, some of which can be busy.

Hydration: All competitors should ensure that they are adequately hydrated, especially if the weather is as hot as it has been in recent days.

COVID-19 The event will be organised in accordance with British Orienteering and Government Guidance in effect at the time of the event.

IF YOU HAVE ANY COVID SYMPTONS PLEASE STAY AT HOME – STAY SAFE
