Final Details

Lindley is a busy suburb of Huddersfield to the WNW of the town centre. It is a short distance from Junctions 23 and 24 of the M62 motorway. Please note there is no exit at Junction 23 from the east.
The main street in Lindley runs NW from the Bay Horse roundabout on the A640 past Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. After 600m, St.Stephen’s Church is on the left and Lindley Clock Tower on the right. Cars will be parked from here. The event centre is close by and the Start will be signed from here. Competitors crossing the street are strongly advised to use the adjacent pelican crossing which will be taped.

Event Centre/Download/Toilets:   

The event centre is at St.Stephen’s Church Community Room at the rear of the church. Download and toilets are located here. Belongings can be left here.

Parking:  

We have been unable to obtain a dedicated car park area. Parking will therefore be on side streets close to Lindley Clock Tower. A marshall will direct you to the street where you are to park. Another marshalls will help you park on that street. You can also park in the Acre Mills car park which is opposite the hospital. Fees are £3 for 2 hours and £5 for 3 hours. Payment is at a machine inside the Acre Mills building.

Terrain: Typical Pennine urban terrain with plenty of route choice and the odd up and down. In the event of wet weather some of the surfaces can be extremely slippery, so great care should be taken.

Entries: Entries via Fabian 4. Online Entries now closed.

There will be very limited EOD subject to map numbers.

Fees £12 Adults (Non BOF £14), £6 Juniors and Helpers, Dibber hire  £1

Starts: Between 10.30 and 12.30 (10.30-11.30 for Junior courses due to road crossings). Courses close at 2pm. Start and Finish will be taped and are approximately 200m from the event centre.

Punching : SI Punching.  SIAC touch free punching will be enabled. Competitors must punch Start and Finish.

Maps: 1:4000@A3 waterproof paper. Map drawn and surveyed in 2022 by Richard Payne. Loose control descriptions will be available in the start lanes.

Courses:

To count in the YHOA Urban League , competitors must enter the appropriate course for their age group. If not, then please enter the Open class on your chosen course eg. Course B Open.

Optimum routes may be up to 50% longer than the published course distances.

Competitors should also be aware that there will be members of the general public walking in the area and corners should be negotiated wide and slow.

All competitors must download, even if they do not complete the course.

In the event of bad weather, the organisers may insist that cagoules be worn. Please bring one to the event with you.

Safety: A comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out by the organiser, but competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. All competitors who start must report to download even if they retire. In the unlikely event of cancellation, details will be posted on the EPOC website – www.eastpennineoc.org.uk Information can also be obtained by emailing the organiser.
If you have a medical condition that first aiders should know about in an emergency, please contact the organiser with details before the event in confidence. These details will only be used for the purposes of this event and will be deleted/destroyed afterwards.

Insurance: Please note that if you are not a member of an orienteering club affiliated to British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance except if you are a newcomer to orienteering, in which case you are covered for three registered orienteering events without joining. Please ask any of our club officials for more information if you would like to join EPOC.

COVID-19 The event will be organised in accordance with British Orienteering and Government Guidance in effect at the time of the event.
