Norland Moor Flyer

Ogden Water

YHOA Championships & YHOA Superleague Event

Sunday 30 October 2022

Revised Final Details

EPOC are pleased to welcome you to orienteer around the beautiful autumnal woods and moorland of Ogden Water.

Late Entries - Late entry is dependant on map availability. We will reopen the racesignup process until 12pm on Saturday 29th October or until the number of maps available has been reached. If your preferred course is full, you could try an alternative to see if this still has availability.

Seniors - £12 BO Members, £14 Non Members, Juniors - £5 (under 21 on 31st December 2022) Si Dibber hire - £1

Terrain & Map Notes - Ogden is a mixed woodland surrounding the reservoir with a good path network. It can be challenging, steep and intricate in places. Summer vegetation is subsiding but runnability is still rather mixed. Falling leaves can make indistinct paths harder to see on the ground. Steep slopes and deep ditches are potential hazards and care should be taken traversing them. If in doubt, there is usually a path option or an easier place to cross nearby. There are some fences marked as uncrossable. Crossing points on the map, shown with red and white tape on the ground must be used. If there is a choice of crossing points, the control line will be drawn an equal distance between them. Other fences can be crossed either at marked gates and stiles or at any suitable point along their length. Black, Brown, Short Brown, Blue and Short Blue courses use the open heather moorland around the wind turbines. Shooting butts on the moor have not been mapped.

Car Park Area - In a field adjacent to the Causeway Foot Inn accessed from the junction of the A629 Halifax - Keighley road and Ogden Lane. There will be a £1 parking fee per car. Toilets will be provided at the car park as well as public toi;ets next to assembly. DO NOT try to use the pub toilets. The regular 502 Halifax-Keighley bus service passes the entrance to the car park field. Parking could be tight, especially if it has been wet, please share transport where you can. Please do NOT park at the reservoir, it is very busy and we want to keep the local authority happy.

Go beyond the houses to where the road widens. This will add 500m to the walk to the start/back from download.

Assembly - Enquiries, dibber hire, clothing dump, download and results will be in an indoor area near the reservoir on the route to the start, 500m taped walk from the car park.  Toilets will be available here and in the parking field. There is a small refreshment outlet and visitor centre opposite the assembly building. Please note, there is NO ‘O’ SHOP.

String Course - There will be a Halloween themed String Course adjacent to the assembly building.

Dogs - Well behaved dogs on leads are fine in the car park, and around Ogden Water. The pub is also dog friendly.

Safety:

Please look out for information in the car park about the need to carry waterproof tops. You may want to carry one anyway as the moorland terrain used by Black, Brown, Short Brown, Blue and Short Blue is exposed. Please take care along the taped routes to the start, to and from the assembly building and from the finish to the download in the assembly building as they are also used by cars accessing the public parking at Ogden Water.

If you are involved in any accidents, damage, injury or a dispute with a member of the public, please let us know when you report to download.

Lone competitors are advised to leave car keys at enquiries so we have an added check that you have returned, even if you forget to download.

A comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out by the organiser, but competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. All competitors who start must report to download even if they retire. In the unlikely event of cancellation, details will be posted on the EPOC website – www.eastpennineoc.org.uk Information can also be obtained by emailing the organiser.

Complaints and protests

If you have a complaint about your course, or any other aspect of the event, please come and discuss it initially with the Organiser or Planner at download/enquiries.  We will involve the Controller if necessary if the issue is related to the fairness of the course.  We will try and resolve all issues on the day.
