Terrain:  Mainly beech woodlands with some steep slopes and some unusual, complex contours, relics of early coal mining. Generally very runnable, although visibility can be limited in areas of young trees. A smaller area of predominantly birch woodland, of mixed age and visibility but also generally quite runnable, will be visited by the longer courses (Green through to Brown). This is a naturally regenerating woodland and vegetation boundaries can be quite indistinct particularly between white, light green (generally very young trees) and mid green (more densely packed young frees). In much of the light green, runnability remains quite good (slow run) but visibility can be quite low in places. The smaller areas of fight tend to be holly or brambles plus a few large fallen trees but, thankfully, these tend to be quite small. Note that many paths are indistinct, even more so as the leaves fall, and some unmapped trails may have been created particularly by mountain bike activity.

Mapping notes: Whilst the map is based on the earlier versions Alistair Tinto (2014) it has been geo-referenced and substantially updated both from Lidar and from ground survey updates.

Entries: via Racesignup.

To count in the Yorkshire Superleague competitors should enter the appropriate course for their age group (or run up). Late entries are now open until 9pm on Thursday 19th October subject to map availability. Courses are filling fast. If you want to enter Blue, Short Blue or Green and you find they are full, please enter the Interland course for that colour and you will find more available start slots. Note Interland and non –Interland courses are physically identical:  the issue is start intervals. The organiser will alert Interland competitors of any start changes to keep the required 4mins separation on all Interland courses.

Fees £10 Senior, £5 Junior. Dibber Hire £1

Cake stall for YHJS Funds:  Please visit the Cake stall which is raising funds for the Yorkshire & Humberside Junior squad. Teas, coffees (please bring your own mug if possible) and of course, cake!  Cash preferred … so please bring loose change from your coin stash…although a card reader may be available at Enquiries.

Starts: 10:30-12:30

Start and Finish are located in Judy Woods on either side of the main path.. Use this path for “Warm up” before entering the woods themselves.

Distance to the start and back from the finish is approximately 1.0km mainly along a quiet “No through road” which is narrow in places but is only used for farm and cottage access. The route to the start will be taped and includes stepping over a low wall onto a resident’s drive to reach the busy A641.  ONLY CROSS THE A641 AT THE PEDESTRIAN LIGHTS CROSSING – as it may or may not be marshalled. The lights are quick to respond but the crossing time allowed is quite short, and also take care crossing the pavement cycle lane. Competitors should also be aware that this area is well used by the general public for dog walking, horse riding and mountain bikers. Please take care especially on the bridleways and, if necessary, slow down passing animals.

There will be a tent near the finish available for clothing dump in case of bad weather which will also host First Aid. Beginners entering on the day will be helped through the start procedure.
Return to event centre by same route.

Interland entrants please note:  Run the colour of your course, as you would normally do, as there are no separate, specific Interland courses.  However, please try to stick to your start time as 4 minute start intervals must be maintained for Interland runners on the same colour course. If you arrive late, report to the start official to be allocated a new start time.
Competitors should also be aware that this area is well used by the general public for dog walking, horse riding and mountain bikers. Please take care especially on the bridleways and, if necessary, slow down passing animals.

Courses close: 2:30pm. If you expect to take a long time then please start early. If you finish after courses close you may be disqualified.

Punching: SI Punching.  SIAC touch free punching will be enabled. Competitors must punch Start and Finish. Competitors on Brown will require a dibber capable of holding more than 30 punches.

Maps:  1:7500 waterproof paper. Loose control descriptions will be available in the start lanes.* Brown & Short Brown courses have double sided maps
