YHOA Night League Event

Final Details

EPOC welcomes you to the newly mapped area of Pontefract Park for the YHOA Night Event on 16th December. The event is middle distance.

Parking: In staff carpark at the top of New College Pontefract on Park Lane (WF8 4QR) and What3Words is weedy.doors.skills. You won’t be able to turn right onto Park Lane when you come off the M62. Instead, continue over the railway bridge and turn first left and left immediately after this to come under the road to the opposite carriageway. Remain in the left-hand lane to turn left onto Park Lane. It will be signed “North Featherstone, Ackton and New College”. The entrance will be well signed. Please listen to marshals who will direct you to where to park. Please Car Share if possible.

The Car Park will close at 8pm sharp, make sure you are off site before this as the barrier will close.

Terrain:

Pontefract Park is new to orienteering having been recently mapped. It offers a mix of open, rough open and wooded sections with mostly fast running. It is just 1 mile from the M62 so is easily accessible for all.

Public Transport: There are 3 train stations in Pontefract with Tanshelf station being just 700m from the event centre.

Assembly/Download: Assembly and Download will be based in the PE/Sport Building on the college site. Follow the signs to it. There will be toilets and classrooms to leave any belongings in if you wish but the classrooms won’t be supervised at all times.

Entries: via Racesignup.

Fees: Senior £8, Young Adult (21-25) £6.50, Junior £5.

Start and FinishStarts are between 5-6pm There is a remote start and finish, the start is 350m away with the finish adjacent. Please allow plenty of time to get to the start. Courses close at 7:30pm, please allow plenty of time for your run and start earlier if needed.

Safety: Please note that cagoules may be compulsory on the day depending on the weather. Please dress appropriately for December, it will be cold and potentially wet. We recommend that you carry a whistle. There will be an emergency phone number on the map. Please be aware that there will be slow moving traffic around the main entrance to the park so please take care crosssing roads in the park.

We recommend a back-up headtorch.

If the weather is wet some of the surfaces can be extremely slippery, so great care should be taken. A comprehensive risk assessment will be carried out by the organiser, but competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. All competitors who start must report to download even if they retire. In the unlikely event of cancellation, details will be posted on the EPOC website – www.eastpennineoc.org.ukInformation can also be obtained by emailing the organiser.
If you have a medical condition that first aiders should know about in an emergency, please contact the organiser with details, before/at the event before your run, in confidence. These details will only be used for the purposes of this event and will be deleted/destroyed afterwards.

Insurance: Please note that if you are not a member of an orienteering club affiliated to British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance except if you are a newcomer to orienteering, in which case you are covered for three registered orienteering events without joining.
